An anderson plug is a secure connection plug capable of withstanding high current circuits and amperages. Anderson plugs come in a range of sizes, colours and amperage rating namely 30amps, 50amps, 120amps, 175amps and 350 amps. As the coloured genuine Anderson plugs have colour-coded mechanically keyed housings they can only connect together with the same colour. They are commonly used as a secure connection for Dual Battery Charging, Solar connection, Fridge Connections, Powering ESC (Electronic Stability Control), Air compressors and Winch motors. They are available in the same amperage as what a 12 Volt Cigarette Socket comes in so if you are looking for a more secure robust connection with the lower amperage then this is the way to go.
Trailer plugs come in different sizes and shapes. It’s generally not until you go to hook up that you realise this. Sockets are attached to the vehicle side, whilst the plug is attached to the trailer or caravan. The most common type been a 7 Pin for Trailer or Boat towing or a 12 Pin for Campervan or Caravan Towing. Please note that a 7 Pin Flat can fit into a 12 Pin Flat. Caravan and trailer companies wire up there plugs differently, so its important to let us know what Caravan, Campervan or Trailer you have so we can ensure that the plug is wired up according to the Manufacturers Caravan or Campervan wiring specifications.
An auxiliary power point or commonly known as a 12V Cigarette Socket is a DC Connector used for portable accessories in you vehicle, caravan, camper trailer or boat using power from either your cars electrical system or 12V Auxiliary Battery. The amperage rates range between 8amps and 20 amps depending on the type and brand. You get different types of sockets. A merit socket is smaller than the cigarette socket and Engel socket and is idea for high current draw accessories, whilst the Engel socket is designed with a screw in connection to ensure it wont disconnect. A USB socket is commonly used for charging phones, iPad’s and other electronic devices.
*Note: Cabling and Fusing is a critical part of any electrical circuit. So ensuring that the correct cable, fuse type and size is used is imperative in avoiding costly repairs and possible fire.
