A UHF CB Radio (Ultra High Frequency Citizens Band) is a great way to have peace of mind when travelling our vast country. In fact some experts say that it is as essential as having a First Aid kit when travelling in the outback, especially if there is no phone reception.
The range of the UHF varies on the signals received and the antennas fitted. Whilst it is not always possible to cover every scenario, it is always wise to stick to a well branded, Australian tested radio with all the correct certifications for peace of mind. Some different types of aerials are as follows:
Low Gain Antennas – 2-4 dBi – lack range in flat terrain, but good for hilly terain
Medium Gain Antennas – 5-7 -dBi good in both flat and hilly terrain
High Gain Antennas – 8+dBi – good in flat terrain, but poor in hilly terrain
